Americanization

The non-natural American children all have a different culture in them. They were raised differently than American children. They have their own culture with many ways of being baked into the culture. Their environments are much different than what the United States had to offer. We start to move into a territory of clashing cultures. The bilingual students are inherently different. The purpose of trying to americanize them is to convert them. The board of education wanted every American student to be truly American. Strip yourself of your past culture and adopt ours. The bilingual children couldn't fully experience the American lifestyle without knowing of it. This idea of losing your culture to adopt a new one is not good.  An intelligent person would never negate new knowledge, to purposefully lose knowledge would be an unintelligent thing to do. It puzzles me how the school systems didn't see this perspective. I understand they just wanted their english school to be English, but to punish a Spanish speaker and make them resent their upbringing is cruel. They should embrace the Spanish and give them the tool they need on top of what they have to be educated.

Now we understand that every school needs to meet a certain requirement. They must provide their students with a standard of tool and education methods that are effective. Paying our staff a livable wage to pursue their love of education further is something we are striving for. We as a community pay for it with our time and attention. We require the absolute best for our children and ourselves. We aren't perfect and its taken us awhile to get where we are. Communities had devastating blows due to this inequality in education and morality. Fighting and killing each other over race and skin color.  We had to pour all of our resources as humans in order to get the right way of living set. People are inhumane and look down on others to fill the void in their lives. It happens to a lot of people and back when it was ok to look down on a literal human people ran with it. Racism was a plague. It tainted peoples minds and blackened their hearts. It ruined real peoples lives.

Education was suppose to be the saving grace for all of us. Knowing more will allow you to think clearly about you and your surroundings. So much was done for education to get to where it was at that time yet they still didn't understand how to share it. Refusing to acknowledge the colored and immigrants as citizens that are equal to themselves. Citizens that are law abiding and tax paying. Wanting the proper education for their children and to be treated equally.

I felt financial inequalities in my schools. I've attended schools that are well equipped with many extra curricular activities. While other school schools i've attended had almost none or a very poor functioning one. I feel like school nationwide should have a higher standard for extra curricular.  Expanding the child mind is the key here, i firmly believe giving them diverse options to build their skillset is a key to educating.

  1. Abraham,
Thanks for your thoughtful commentary on this period of social and educational reforms, and on some of the questions posed for this blog. Indeed, it's very difficult for me not to connect what I am reading about in history about our current struggles to rid ourselves and our culture from some of the dark and violent parts of our society, such as race- or gender-based discrimination, and structural racism, to name a few. These influenced our educational system and schools.
I appreciate your reflections about racism and its impact on individuals and communities, and about education.
I agree with your argument for raising the standards and resources of education, including extra-curricular activities-- for all children.
